Mornington Racing Club

Massive day of action in the 3rd week of Finals in the Nepean FNL Bendigo Bank Finals Series.

The day started with Red Hill taking on Rosebud in the Under 19’s. The Hillmen weren’t letting another game get away from them putting on a 6 goals to 2 in the first quarter and never looked back taking out the game by 88 points to set up a Grand Final against Sorrento next Saturday.

In the Reserves it was the local derby match between Rosebud and Rye. The Buds got out to a nice lead but poor kicking kept the Demons in the game coming back at 3 quarter time to level the scores. In the last the Buds were able to edge that little bit further and secure themselves a spot in the Grand Final against Red Hill next week with a 15 point win.

And in the main event of the day Hastings upset Rosebud by 7 points to book themselves a place in the Grand Final next Saturday against Frankston Bombers. Hastings started the day full of energy and never looked back despite a few comebacks from Rosebud the Blues always looked in control.

Grand Final’s were held today out at Tyabb, with a mixed bag of results for the day with 4 different clubs taking out Premiership glory in 2016.

Under 17’s Sorrento 23 Def Rosebud 19

The Under 17’s was a fantastic game between Rosebud and Sorrento, which saw the Sorra’s get up by 4 points at the end of the day.

C Grade Devon Meadows 38 Def Somerville 24

Devon Meadows kept their undefeated season going with a 14 point victory over Somerville. The Meadows girls were just to strong for Somerville and deserved to be standing with the Cup at the end of the day.

B Grade Somerville 28 Def Devon Meadows 27

A brilliant game in B Grade that went right to the wire with Somerville just getting over the line. Both teams would have been worthy winners but their can only be one, and when the whistle went it was the Eagles in front to take premiership glory.

A Grade Crib Point 53 Def Tyabb 38

It was the game everyone was looking forward to. Crib Point though were here to make a statement. A lot of close games have been played throughout the year between these two sides, and Cribby were certain that this game wasn’t to be a close margin taking out the flag by 15 points.
